Early Years Assessment (Ages 2-5)

-Supporting parents to better understand your child’s development during the crucial early years.

-Identifying any developmental difficulties and thinking together about strategies to support development.

What does it involve?

A free 15-minute phone consultation to discuss your concerns and explore whether an early years assessment is appropriate for your child.

Common reasons parents seek an Early Years Assessment

  • Concerns about language, social communication or play
  • Possible signs of autism or sensory differences
  • Behavioural challenges at home or nursery
  • Emotional difficulties (e.g. anxiety, withdrawal, frequent distress)
  • Understanding developmental progress and school readiness

The Typical Process

Consultation with the Family

A 1:1 meeting with parent(s)/carer(s) to explore concerns, gather developmental history, and identify goals for support. If appropriate, this may also include a joint consultation with your child’s nursery or early years setting.

Observation

I will observe your child in a familiar environment — either at home or in nursery — to understand how they are functioning socially, emotionally, and cognitively in context.

Written Report and Recommendations

A detailed report will be provided, outlining strengths, areas of need, and practical, evidence-based strategies to support your child’s development.

Feedback Meeting

A follow-up session (virtual) to talk through the report, discuss outcomes, and consider next steps – including signposting to other professional services if necessary and / or how to share recommendations with other professionals if needed.
